Barbarians At The Gates

If you are a resident of a civilized, law abiding community and you awake one morning to find your community under siege by a frenzied mop of barbarians, what should you do?  more importantly, what can you do?

Although this may sound like a plot for a “c” level movie, this story is actually playing out in a number of communities today, in the United States.  How can this be happening?  Don’t we have a powerful and effective government structure whose first responsibility is to protect the safety of its citizens?  After 84 years of life in the U.S., I thought we did.  After all wasn’t our country built on a strong foundation with ultimate respect for the rule of law?  Isn’t this one of the principle reasons why so many were attracted here from other lands where their safety and freedom were not respected and supported by their governments?

I recall from my earlier years how the vast majority of Americans loved this country, thanked God every day that they were fortunate enough to live here rather than over there somewhere.  Those who protected us, the military, the police and, “big surprise”, even our government regarded this as their number one priority.  In return, we prized their presence, showed them great respect and honored them in every way.

So what’s happened in the last few years?  Why has everything been turned on its head?  Why do so many show open contempt for the police and often our military?  Is it because of the proverbial one or two bad apples in the bunch?  I think not.  When we look at our politicians and the political landscape across our country, we see disarray.  We see a collection of characters more like the keystone cops or the gang that couldn’t shoot straight.  Our politicians spend the vast majority of their time and effort engaging in political warfare.  Anyone observing this fiasco clearly must realize that their interests strictly lie in personal agenda - gaining or regaining power and obviously, maximizing personal wealth.  The needs of the citizens and the country - “what are they?  Don’t bother us with such trivial matters”.

So what gives?  Why do our politicians turn on their own police?  Why do they kowtow to the barbarians trashing our cities, burning and destroying businesses, tearing down statues, laying waste to our history, openly attacking police and terrorizing the citizenry?  Don’t tell me it’s because of a renegade policeman savagely killing George Floyd and the outcry for “black lives matter”.  If black lives mattered so much to the barbarians, they would have overtaken the crime infested neighborhoods of the large cities where scores of blacks, including innocent children, are killed every day.  Why are these criminals laying waste to cities like Seattle and Portland and not tackling the truly desperate situation facing the black communities in Chicago, New York and elsewhere?

The answer is clear, the barbarians don’t care a wit about the rights of blacks or anyone else for that matter.  These are clearly anarchist barbarians who hate the U.S. and our way of life.  Their ultimate goal is to destroy it all and turn this country into another failed state like North Korea or Venezuela.

As caring citizens of the United States, we need to put all manner of pressure on our elected officials to quickly and without hesitation, restore the rule of law throughout our country.  Lawlessness, such as that recently encountered cannot be tolerated for even a second.  Governors, Mayors, Senators, Congresspeople, President Trump and all members of the administration, get to work and clear up this mess.  Any hesitation by elected officials to do what they were elected to do, i.e., protect our country and its citizens, should result in them being booted out of office as soon as possible.
