The items found on this blog were written during the past few years and strictly reflect my own opinions. Because these articles deal with difficult issues they are bound to be controversial. They reflect my personal analysis based on the limited information that I have. I am certainly no expert and fully respect different opinions. Difficult issues would not be difficult if there were clear-cut answers. Although you will see in reading some of my material, I don't like being pigeonholed with a label, I will admit to being politically independent with a tendency to be more conservative fiscally and slightly more liberal with regard to social issues. Having lived through the 1940's, I have a great appreciation for the sacrifices made by our armed forces and, in fact, all Americans during World War II. The greatness of this country shone bright as we rehabilitated and rebuilt our enemies after winning that war. I am very patriotic and proud of our country. While we are far from perfect, we're not as far from that ideal as most other countries in the world.

Grandchildren, Romance and Chocolate Malted Milkshakes

After the obvious choice of one’s spouse and children that most of us would mention as the best things in life, my vote for the next three would be grandchildren, romance and chocolate malted milkshakes.  Now I have to say that the only reason I didn’t include grandchildren in the upper echelon with my wife and children is because I intend for grandchildren to be a major focus of this composition.  It seems that the title of a composition, story, essay or whatever should contain those elements to be discussed in detail in the body of the text.  Of course, I could have titled this work “Wife, Children, Grandchildren, Romance and Chocolate Malted Milkshakes”, or maybe I should have included parents and grandparents in the title.  However, don’t you think that would be a bit too much?  Then what about siblings, aunts, uncles and in-laws?  Well, I think you get the picture.  I really want to discuss grandchildren, romance and chocolate malted milkshakes.  That doesn’t mean I don’t love my wife and children more than anything or that I don’t love my grandchildren as much as my wife and children.  I’ve got to stop trying to explain my choice of title and get on with the rest of my composition because I just seem to be digging myself deeper into a hole that has no bottom.  Before continuing however, I just have to say that the title contains the third item because I really like chocolate malted milkshakes.  If you’re alive and are able to read this, the inclusion of romance needs no further justification.

Grandchildren give us a second opportunity to enjoy that profound happiness we found in raising our own children.  To again experience the wonder and joy expressed by young children as they encounter simple everyday aspects of life is wonderful.  The excitement in finding a small colorful stone in the garden or a butterfly on a shrub in the yard brings sheer joy to a young child but also, rekindles a long-forgotten sense of wonder and joy as the treasure is shared with the grandparent.  What can bring more joy than having a grandchild come into the house, run up to you throwing their arms around your neck and saying, “Come on BopBop lets go play”.  What can bring more satisfaction than watching grandchildren mature into wonderful and talented young men and women?  Attending countless music lessons, school performances, sports events, dance recitals, and award ceremonies provides us as grandparents a priceless sense of pride and satisfaction.  Finally, the enjoyment brought into our lives by grandchildren is the best gift our children could ever bestow upon us.  We are left with an infinite feeling of gratitude and an ever deeper appreciation and love for our children.

As I said previously, the inclusion of romance should need no explanation.  If you are still warm and breathing, you understand the importance of romance and the extreme happiness it can bring.  The key thought is to be sure to keep that spark burning.  Not only will your life be enhanced but I truly believe it is a key factor to longevity.  Just look at salmon and butterflies.  Like many other animal species, they reproduce and then they die.  As humans we have the ability to extend romance beyond our reproductive years- A Good Idea!

As for Chocolate Malted Milkshakes, I just really like them.
